The recognition points to a shift already underway in local government, where agencies are looking for practical ways to deploy AI agents without giving up control of their data.

Luke Norris, CEO of Kamiwaza, said the real barrier to AI adoption in government isn't the technology itself. "The challenge isn't simply deploying AI, it's giving AI secure access to trusted data without forcing governments to centralize or compromise it," Norris said.
The company's partnership with the Town of Vail, Colorado illustrates the approach in practice. Kamiwaza built agentic AI capabilities for the town covering document intelligence, digital accessibility, emergency preparedness, and citizen services, all while keeping municipal data secure and under local control.
